A welcoming advertisement by H&M

A welcoming advertisement by H&M :- Hennes & Mauritz, the Swedish multinational clothing retail company which is more commonly known as H&M, has taken out a recent advertisement for its ‘New Autumn Collection 2016’. The advertisement is worth the watch as it is very refreshing and different from the mundane advertisements of clothing companies.

The ad is a breath of fresh air as it breaks various stereotypes and promotes diversity. The advertisement features women of different colour, size, age and sexuality who are conquering the world against the backdrop of the song “She’s A Lady”. From starring the transgender model Hari Nef and showing same-sex kiss scenes, the company is on the right track for the empowerment of women.

The feminist advertisement has got everything on point and it is something that we desperately need. What the ad does best is that it promotes different body types.

From being a size zero to a little healthy, it shows how women of all sizes are phenomenal and how their size is just another number. The inclusive ad also shows two women kiss underwater and if that is not breaking the silence, then I don’t know what it.

The ad managed to evoke simple questions of what it is to be ‘ladylike’ and why you don’t have the compulsion to be that way. The most relatable scene in the ad was when a girl unzips her pants just to give herself extra space to eat fries (we all have done this!).

The brand has made a style statement against the backdrop of empowerment and it must appreciate for the brilliant effort. As body shaming, racism and discrimination based on sexuality are on a constant rise, we could do with more such ads that will leave a message for the thousands out there who practice these and for those affected by it.
