Post-poll Violence: TMC Panchayat Member Shot Dead in Bengal; Investigation Underway

In a tragic incident of post-poll violence in West Bengal, a newly elected member of the TMC panchayat, Moimur Gharami, was brutally murdered by unidentified gunmen. The disturbing event took place during the late hours in the Arjunpur locality of Block 2, Magrahat, situated in the South 24 Parganas district.During the attack, one of Gharami’s companions, Sahajahan Molla, was also injured and is currently in critical condition at a local hospital.

Panchayat Poll Violence: 

Authorities are conducting an investigation to determine whether the murder resulted from political rivalry or personal enmity. With Gharami’s death, the death toll from violence connected to the recently concluded panchayat polls in the state has risen to 55. The attackers ambushed Gharami while he was returning home, and they viciously attacked him with both hacking and gunshots, resulting in his immediate death. Molla, who attempted to rescue Gharami, was also shot by the assailants.

Following the incident, four individuals have been arrested in connection with the murder. The tragic event has raised concerns over the safety and security of political representatives in the region, and authorities are working to bring those responsible to justice.
