Carlos Alcaraz, the young tennis sensation, achieved a remarkable victory at Wimbledon, capturing his first Grand Slam title. Novak Djokovic, whom Alcaraz defeated in an intense five-set match on Centre Court, praised Alcaraz and paid the ultimate compliment to the Spaniard, disregarding Roger Federer’s advice.

Since bursting onto the Tennis scene, Alcaraz has drawn comparisons to the “Big Three” – Federer, Djokovic, and Rafael Nadal. This speculation intensified after Alcaraz won his maiden Grand Slam title at the 2022 US Open. Alcaraz’s coach, Juan Carlos Ferrero, described him as a blend of the three tennis legends. When Federer learned of this statement during a recent interview, he expressed surprise and cautioned against placing excessive pressure on young players.

Despite Federer’s advice, Djokovic lavished praise on Alcaraz, recognizing the young champion’s unique qualities. Djokovic acknowledged that Alcaraz possesses elements from all three players, calling him “a mix of the Big Three.” The Serb highlighted Alcaraz’s mental resilience, maturity, competitive spirit, and incredible defensive skills reminiscent of Nadal. Djokovic also noted similarities in their two-handed backhands, adaptability, and defensive capabilities.

Djokovic expressed his admiration for Alcaraz’s well-rounded game, emphasising his ability to adapt, which he considers a vital attribute for a successful and enduring career. He confessed that he had never encountered a player quite like Alcaraz before, emphasising that while Federer and Nadal have their individual strengths and weaknesses, Alcaraz embodies a complete package.

In addition to his Wimbledon triumph, Alcaraz retained his world number one ranking, extending his reign at the top of the ATP charts for 49 consecutive weeks. Djokovic, on the other hand, maintained his position at number two.
