Karnataka Athlete Cash Rewards: Asian Games 2026 Incentives, Medal Winners, M.R. Poovamma, Shreyanka R Patil, Sports Reservation, Olympic Preparation & Group-B Jobs
Karnataka athlete cash rewards rise for Asian Games 2026 medal winners, with sports reservation, Olympic preparation and Group-B jobs announced.
Karnataka Announces Rs 8 Crore Cash Bonanza For Asian Games Medal Winners
Karnataka has announced a major financial boost for its sportspersons after their impressive performance at the Asian Games 2026. The state government has increased cash rewards for medal winners and announced a total of Rs 8 crore for eight Karnataka athletes who won medals at the continental sporting event. The decision is being seen as an important step towards recognising sporting excellence and encouraging more young athletes to pursue professional sports.
Along with higher prize money, the new package includes Karnataka athlete cash rewards, government employment opportunities, sports reservation and financial assistance for Olympic preparation. The government has also announced an incentive for athletes who participated in the Asian Games but did not win medals.
Karnataka Increases Asian Games 2026 Incentives
Under the revised Asian Games 2026 incentives, gold medal winners from Karnataka will now receive Rs 1 crore. Silver medal winners will receive Rs 75 lakh, while bronze medal winners will be awarded Rs 50 lakh.
The revised amounts represent a significant increase from the earlier rewards of Rs 35 lakh for gold, Rs 25 lakh for silver and Rs 15 lakh for bronze. The enhanced structure is intended to provide stronger financial recognition to athletes representing Karnataka and India on major international platforms.
Eight Karnataka athletes are eligible for the revised medal rewards, with the total prize money reaching Rs 8 crore. The athletes also receive a separate participation incentive of Rs 5 lakh.
M.R. Poovamma and Shreyanka R Patil Among Key Beneficiaries
Among the prominent medal winners, athlete M.R. Poovamma and cricketer Shreyanka R Patil are among the Karnataka stars receiving enhanced financial support.
M.R. Poovamma won gold and silver medals across relay events and will receive a combined Rs 1.75 crore under the revised medal reward structure. Shreyanka R Patil, who was part of India’s women’s cricket team, won gold and will receive Rs 1 crore.
Other Karnataka athletes receiving enhanced rewards include Pranavi S. Urs, Aditi Ashok, Tilottama Sen, Ayush R. Shetty, Sneha S.S. and Mohith H.S.
Rs 5 Lakh Incentive for Every Karnataka Athlete
The state’s support is not limited to medal winners. For the first time, all 20 Karnataka athletes who qualified for and competed at the Asian Games 2026 will receive Rs 5 lakh each.
The move recognises the effort required to qualify for a major international competition, regardless of whether an athlete ultimately wins a medal. Athletes representing disciplines such as athletics, swimming, golf, badminton, cricket, hockey, shooting, table tennis, cycling and sport climbing are included.
Group-B Jobs Offer Career Security to Medal Winners
One of the most significant parts of the announcement is the employment support offered to successful sportspersons. Asian Games and Commonwealth Games medal winners will be eligible for direct recruitment to Group-B jobs in the Karnataka government.
The appointments will be considered through a selection committee headed by the Chief Secretary. The initiative aims to give accomplished athletes greater career security after their sporting careers while recognising their contribution to the state and country.
Sports Reservation Expanded in Government Recruitment
Karnataka has also introduced 2% sports reservation in direct recruitment to state government posts. The reservation applies across Group-A, Group-B, Group-C and Group-D categories for eligible sportspersons.
According to the revised recruitment rules, qualifying sports achievers can benefit from the reservation subject to prescribed eligibility conditions. The measure is designed to create a stronger pathway between sporting achievement and long-term employment opportunities.
Olympic Preparation Gets Additional Support
The state has also linked the latest incentives with future international competitions. Under its Olympic preparation programme for 2026-27, M.R. Poovamma, Sneha S.S., Shreyanka R Patil and Commonwealth Games medallist Shilpa K.S. have been selected for additional financial support.
Each selected athlete will receive Rs 10 lakh to assist with training and other requirements related to Olympic preparation.

A Bigger Push for Karnataka Sports
The latest announcement goes beyond a one-time cash reward. By combining higher Karnataka athlete cash rewards, participation incentives, sports reservation, Group-B jobs and financial assistance for Olympic preparation, the government is creating a broader support system for athletes.
The increased Asian Games 2026 incentives could also encourage emerging athletes to pursue international competition with greater confidence. With stars such as M.R. Poovamma and Shreyanka R Patil receiving recognition, Karnataka’s latest move highlights the growing importance of financial stability, career opportunities and long-term preparation in developing sporting talent.
