Don’t watch it ALONE

Don’t watch it ALONE

Rating: 1 1/2

ALONE, starring Bipasha Basu and Karan Singh Grover, is a remake of the Thai movie Alone. It is a story of conjoined-twin sisters (Sanjana and Anjana) among which one of the sisters (Anjana) eventually dies and keeps haunting the other sibling. The beginning of the story is pretty clichéd- Sanjana and Kabir (Karan Singh Grover) are a married-couple unhappy with each other. The wife is demanding time and love but the husband is always busy in his work to earn a living (similar to Raaz). Sanjana aka Bipasha Basu’s entrance was quite cold but Kabir aka Karan’s entry did get a lot of hooting and sighs from girls on his entrance.

After the entry and a romantic song, the couple ends up fighting and during this fight a small part of their past is revealed to the audience of a time when they used to live in Kerala. At the same time they get news that Sanjana’s mother had a paralysis attack because of which they eventually land up in Kerala.

As soon as the couple lands up at Sanjana’s house, Anjana, the demonic sister starts giving trouble. And as usual, the husband doesn’t believe on whatever Sanjana has to say. Sanjana also goes through counseling sessions with a psychologist (played by Zakir Hussain) who was a professor to Kabir when he was a student and yes obviously like other horror movies, this movie has a tantrik too. The first half of the story has nothing to offer and it is only after the demon sister enters Sanjana’s body the story begins to take a good turn. However, the reason behind why Anjana is taking revenge on her own sister remains a secret till the end of the movie with good enough twists and turns.

Don’t watch it ALONE

As a director, Bhushan Patel has somewhere failed to keep the horror intact and bring something new to the story; everyone in the audience could predict the story well before hand. Especially for people who have seen the original movie ‘Alone’, it would be quite a disappointment. For instance, in a scene where Bipasha is walking on the side of the beach, everyone could guess that there would be four foot prints and also the scene of exorcism was repetitive and childish. Also, he hasn’t given much attention to the diction since Karan has done a lot of ko-SIS and SAA-di in the movie.

Karan Singh Grover seemed as if he has been ragged in the entire movie and was not at all convincing. Probably he was given this role because there has to be a man or just to show his body and do romantic scenes. He could hardly be seen acting but could be seen sleeping a lot in spite of the noises around, well he has had his own rest in the movie or he has been so busy in growing his muscles that he forgot that he need to make his presence felt. On other hand, Bipasha Basu seemed over powering and as per her words, she tried to make her built a lot more womanish, I don’t think it worked for her though! Also, please someone tell her not to cry because it makes us laugh.

Don’t watch it ALONE

The songs do have a connection with the story but their picturisation was not at all up to the mark. Katra Katra was sensuous and sexy and Bipasha looked absolutely stunning but it failed to give goose bumps, in fact, the audio is much better than the visual. The movie fails to capture the beauty of Kerala and also, fails to scare the audience. So, it is okay if you don’t watch it on the theatre because you aren’t losing anything out. However, if you have nothing to do, then you can go alone since you don’t want to be cursed for wasting money and time.
