On October 8, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau spoke with UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan on the India – Canada Conflict and the importance of “upholding and respecting the rule of law”.

As a result of Trudeau’s accusations in the Canadian Parliament over India’s “potential link” in the gruesome killing of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar, India and Canada are currently embroiled in a diplomatic dispute.

The announcement by Trudeau comes a day after Melanie Joly, Canada’s foreign minister, said on Tuesday that her nation wanted to have confidential discussions with India to resolve the diplomatic dispute.

Joly stressed how seriously Canada takes its ambassadors’ safety and said that in-person meetings are thought to be the most productive.

“We are in contact with the government of India,” she told the media. We will continue to communicate privately because we believe that keeping diplomatic discussions private is best since we take the safety of Canadian ambassadors very seriously.

According to ANI, earlier reports said that India has asked Canada to reduce its diplomatic workforce there significantly. Arindam Bagchi, a spokesperson for the Ministry of External Affairs, stated earlier in October that Canada, which has a disproportionately high number of diplomats stationed in the nation, has reportedly suggested cutting the number from 62 to 21.
