During a discussion on the no-confidence motion against the NDA government, Union minister Smriti Irani responded to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s speech by highlighting what she saw as contradictions in his statements. Irani mentioned that for the first time, a mention of Bharat Mata ki hatya (death of Mother India) was made in Parliament, and allies of the Congress clapped. She countered Rahul Gandhi’s assertion that his mother, referring to Manipur, had been killed, by emphasizing that corruption and dynasty have no place in India. Irani referred to historical events such as the 1984 riots, the Emergency, and the case of Girija Tickoo, a Kashmiri Pandit who was gang-raped and murdered in Kashmir. She criticized Congress leaders for downplaying the seriousness of such incidents.
