Heartbreaking Incident: IndiGo Pilot Passes Away Due to Sudden Cardiac Arrest at Nagpur Airport, Leading to Flight Delay

A tragic incident occurred at Nagpur airport when an IndiGo pilot, Captain Manoj Subramanyam (40), collapsed at a boarding gate just before his scheduled flight operation and subsequently passed away while being transported to the hospital. The pilot was slated to fly the Nagpur-Pune 6E135 flight around 1 pm but collapsed at approximately 12:05 pm. Preliminary reports attribute his demise to a sudden cardiac arrest, according to Aejaz Shami, spokesperson for KIMS-Kingsway Hospital.

Pilot’s Tragic Collapse:

Airport director Abid Ruhi reported that an emergency team administered CPR to the pilot immediately after his collapse, but he did not respond. Despite their efforts, the pilot was declared deceased upon arrival at the hospital. An airline representative expressed condolences and shared that the pilot fell ill at Nagpur airport and was transported to the hospital, where he tragically passed away. The pilot had a rest period of 27 hours before his duty that day.

Post-Mortem Ordered:

Subramanyam’s body was sent for a post-mortem examination at a government-run medical college in Nagpur, and it is expected to be released to his family following the examination. The incident led to a slight delay of nearly 15 minutes for the Nagpur-Pune flight. This occurrence follows a recent incident involving a senior Qatar Airways pilot who passed away due to cardiac arrest while on a Delhi-Doha flight, highlighting the critical health risks faced by pilots even in-flight.
