Indian Killed as Two Helicopters Collide Near Everest Base Camp in Nepal | On Cam

A tragic aviation accident near Mount Everest has claimed the life of an Indian tourist after two helicopters collided while attempting to land in Nepal’s Solukhumbu district on November 3, 2026. The shocking helicopter collision took place at Pheriche, a popular stop along the trekking route to Everest Base Camp. The aircraft involved were operated by Fish Tail Air and Dynasty Air. According to local police, one Indian national died, while passengers and pilots sustained injuries. The incident has raised fresh concerns about helicopter safety in Nepal’s challenging Himalayan region, where aircraft are frequently used to transport tourists, climbers and rescue passengers.

Nepal Helicopter Crash: What Happened Near Everest Base Camp?

The Nepal helicopter crash occurred at approximately 8:11 AM local time on Tuesday at the Pheriche helipad in Ward 4 of Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality, Solukhumbu district.

According to the District Police Office, Solukhumbu, two helicopters collided during their landing operations. The impact caused a serious accident, resulting in one passenger losing his life and several people suffering injuries.

Pheriche is an important settlement on the route to Mount Everest Base Camp, approximately 150 kilometres northeast of Kathmandu. The location is frequently used by trekking groups and helicopter operators serving the Everest region.

The incident was reported by Nepalese authorities, who immediately began gathering information about the passengers, crew members and circumstances surrounding the collision.

Fish Tail Air and Dynasty Air Helicopters Involved in Collision

The two aircraft involved in the accident belonged to Fish Tail Air and Dynasty Air, two helicopter operators providing aviation services in Nepal.

According to police information, the helicopters collided while approaching the helipad for landing. Initial reports indicated that their rotor blades came into contact during the landing manoeuvre.

Fish Tail Air confirmed that its helicopter was carrying passengers who had been rescued from the Everest region when the accident occurred. Reports also indicated that the Dynasty Air helicopter was carrying cargo.

The exact sequence of events leading to the collision has not yet been officially established. Aviation authorities are expected to examine the circumstances surrounding the incident, including the aircraft movements and landing procedures.

Indian Tourist Killed, Foreign National Dead Confirmed by Police

Police identified the deceased passenger as Vasanth Kumar Balaramaramadu, a 47-year-old Indian national who was travelling aboard the Fish Tail Air helicopter.

His death has brought attention to the risks associated with helicopter transportation in Nepal’s mountainous regions.

Another passenger, Shailesh Krishna Patel, a 49-year-old Indian-origin resident of New Zealand, sustained injuries in the accident. He was airlifted to Mediciti Hospital in Kathmandu for further medical treatment.

The body of the deceased Indian tourist was taken to a hospital in Lukla.

The incident has also been described in several reports as a case involving a foreign national dead and multiple injured passengers and crew members.

Nepali National Injured: Pilots Also Sustain Injuries

Apart from the passengers, the pilots operating the helicopters were also reported to have sustained injuries.

The pilots were identified as Rabindra Prajapati of Fish Tail Air and Prajwal KC of Dynasty Air. Both were reportedly taken to Kathmandu for further treatment.

This means the incident involved injuries to Nepalese aviation crew members as well as passengers. Reports from the Associated Press also confirmed injuries to a Nepali pilot and a passenger from New Zealand.

Authorities were still collecting details about everyone aboard the two helicopters. The complete passenger count and the final assessment of injuries had not been confirmed in the initial reports.

Solukhumbu Police Investigate the Helicopter Collision

The Solukhumbu police have started gathering information about the accident to establish exactly what happened during the landing process.

Police Inspector Mausam Tamang confirmed the collision and provided initial information about the deceased and injured individuals.

The investigation is expected to examine the aircraft movements, landing coordination, communication procedures and other operational factors.

The Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal may also examine the incident as part of the aviation safety investigation.

At present, the exact cause of the collision remains unknown. It would therefore be premature to attribute responsibility to either helicopter operator or their pilots before the investigation is completed.

Why Are Helicopters Important Around Everest Base Camp?

Helicopters play an important role in Nepal’s tourism and emergency response network, particularly in the Everest region.

The mountainous terrain makes road transportation extremely difficult, while trekking routes can take several days to complete. Helicopters are therefore frequently used to transport tourists, mountaineers, guides and essential supplies.

They also provide emergency evacuation services for people experiencing altitude sickness, injuries or other medical emergencies.

Pheriche is situated at approximately 4,200 metres above sea level and serves as an important stop for trekkers travelling towards Everest Base Camp.

However, operating aircraft at high altitudes presents several challenges, including changing weather conditions, limited landing space and difficult terrain. These conditions make proper coordination between aircraft and strict aviation safety procedures particularly important.
