MCD school Delhi Gas Leak: 28 Students Sickened, Food Poisoning Suspected, Investigation ongoing


Around 28 students of MCD school Delhi became unwell on Friday, possibly due to a gas leak near railway tracks, as stated by police and civic authorities. Hospitalisation ensued for fourth and fifth-grade students, with their condition currently stable. The incident occurred at a Municipal Corporation of Delhi [West Delhi] school in Naraina, shortly after noon, following midday meals. The leak, believed to be from railway tracks, led to the students’ hospitalization at Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital and Acharya Bhikshuk Hospital. Municipal officials and educational representatives are overseeing the situation.

Food Poisoning Suspicions: 

Due to initial suspicions of food poisoning by some parents, police have sent food samples for analysis. Vichitra Veer, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (west), shared that a distress call reported vomiting by children at the school. Promptly, the affected students were moved to the hospital. Veer confirmed that the students are recovering well and expected to be discharged soon.

Early investigations suggest that the cause could be the strong odor, likely diesel fumes from a passing train, which affected two classrooms, causing discomfort and vomiting among students. Other classrooms remained unaffected. Authorities are also examining food samples collected from the school.

As of now, no formal case has been filed in connection with the incident.
