Why Turtle Conservation Matters
Having existed for over 200 million years, turtles and tortoises have species which are facing threats due to various habitat destruction, climate changes, illegal trade, and pollution. World Turtle Day is a reminder of the fact that these ancient reptiles and their environments require urgent attention conservation-wise. Raising awareness and inspiring conservation actions will work toward making sure that these turtles survive for future generations.
Participation on World Turtle Day
This year’s theme, “Dancing Turtles Rock!,” can also be incorporated into fundraisers, educational workshops, habitat clean-ups, and many more events that individuals and organizations may hold to participate in the World Turtle Day celebrations. The community and schools are encouraged to have lessons and crafts on turtles so that it becomes relevant to the younger generations about conserving them. Besides that, spreading information around the world can be done by tagging those hashtags on social networks: #WorldTurtleDay and #DancingTurtlesRock.
