After the launch of India’s first electric bike, people have been comparing it to different petrol bikes

Recently, India’s first electric bike was launched by Revolt. Two bikes Revolt RV 300 and Revolt RV 400 were launched in India last week. The company launched these bikes with a game-changer innovation. People can buy these bikes by paying Rs 3,999 for the premium version, and Rs 3,499 for the basic version for 37 months. There is no minimum down payment required to buy the bike. The price also includes insurance and service cost of three years.

While Indian cities are getting polluted day by day, Revolt might be able to start a revolt to fight the pollution caused by combustion bikes. While the bike can be a good reason for urban commuters to go green, it can’t yield the best outputs for long distances on the highway or even for some fun weekend riding. The bike is a simple, easy to use motorcycle which will be more economical than a traditional petrol-powered bike.

Honda CB shine SP is one of the most popular bikes on the roads in India. The 125 cc bike is priced between Rs 60, 710 to Rs 65,671 (ex-showroom). It is powered by single-cylinder, air-cooled engine with a motor which meet the stringent BS-IV emission standards. It delivers 10.3PS of power and a peak torque of 10.Nm.

Engine

Engines for both bikes are totally different. Revolt RV 400 runs on the battery while Honda CB Shine (CBS) runs on the traditional engine. The electric bike has a Lithium-Ion battery which runs after charging the battery. It may take 3 hours to 4.5 hours to fully charge the battery. The starting mechanism is also electric. On the other hand, Honda Shine has a maximum torque of 10.3Nm @5500 and is 124.7 cc. Kick start and self-start are two ways to start the Honda bike which exerts maximum power up to 10.16bhp @7500 rpm.

Fuel Consumption

The Revolt RV 400 can run up to 150 km once fully charged. Talking about the Honda Shine, it requires fuel to run on roads. It has 10.5 L fuel tank capacity and mileage is said to range from 60 to 65 kmpl.

Weight and Dimension

Weight is something buyers take into account while buying a new bike. The electric bike’s weight is as low as 108 kg while the Honda Shine is 123 kg. Length for Revolt bike is 2156 mm, Width is 813 mm, Height 1112 mm, wheelbase is 1350 mm, ground clearance is 215 mm and seat height is 814 mm. The Shine is 2007 mm in length, 762 mm in width, 1085 mm in height 1266 mm in wheelbase and 160 mm of ground clearance.

Clutch and Gears

While e-bike doesn’t require the clutch or gears, the Honda Shine has 5 gears and has wet and multiplate clutch.

Suspension & Brakes

Front suspension for Revolt is upside down forks and rear suspension is adjustable monoshock. Honda CB Shine SP has Diamond chassis and has telescopic front suspension and spring-loaded hydraulic type. The Revolt bike has Disc brakes on both sides while Honda has Disc brakes on front tyres only.

Wheels and Tyres

The front and back tyres of Revolt bike is 90/80-17 and 120/80-17. Both the tyres of Honda are 80/100-18 tubeless. Honda has 18 inches -wheel size and has alloy wheels.

Electricals

Honda has a 12V 3Ah (MF) battery to support self-start and lights. Headlight and tail light are LED-based in the electric bike. Honda has LED tail light but the headlight is 12V 35/35W.

Other standard features

Speedometer and tachometer are digital in Revolt RV 400. The Honda Shine lacks tachometer but has an analogue speedometer. The e-bike has gear indicator, low battery indicator, the pillion seat, engine kill switch, digital tripmeter, pass light, CBS, and remote key. Honda CB Shine SP has a fuel gauge, pillion seat, pillion grabrail, clock, digital tripmeter, tripmeter count, pass light, 5-speed transmission, automatic headlamp, CBS with equalizer, digital-analogue meter, Het with BS-IV compliance, low maintenance seal chain, low rolling resistance tyre, and spilt alloy wheels
