Border-Gavaskar Trophy: All you need to know about India vs Australia, Test series 2023

In the cricket world, there are many long-standing rivalries between different nations. For instance, England and Australia have a rivalry that goes way back to the very first test match they ever played. Then, not to mention the intense, high-voltage rivalry between India and Pakistan, which always manages to engage fans from around the world and keeps them on the edges of their seats.

But over time, a new rivalry developed between two great cricketing nations, India and Australia as these two countries have fought epic battles on the cricket field across all 3 formats over the last 3 decades. Currently, the Test matches are being played between the two teams (India and Australia), contesting for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

THE HISTORY

The history of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy is based on the Test series played between India and Australia, which is considered as one of the richest in the annals of the cricketing lore. The first match of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy was played in 1996 in the honour of legendary Sunil Gavaskar of India and Australia’s Allan Border. Thus the said Border-Gavaskar Trophy is named after two of the greatest players, who were the first two players who scored over 10,000 test runs, and both were the World Record holders for the most career runs scored in Test Cricket.
