Have you ever had those days when the only thing you feel like doing is just lie in bed and sleep? Pretty sure we have all had our fair share of horrible days, where you come home exhausted mentally, physically, and emotionally and you do not understand how to handle tough days. Sometimes the day has barely started, and you know it is already going to be one of those days. You may feel irritable and overly sensitive, or maybe you are holding back tears, or have had to run to the bathroom to cry.

It is OKAY!

We all experience bad and tough days. Tough times are inevitable, be it a health issue, financial crisis, or family problem. Therefore, here are the 6 things to remember to handle tough days.

1. Tough days are inevitable sometimes

We tend to catastrophize bad experiences. In this mindset, it is easy to forget that a bad moment can be an opportunity to learn. With bad days’ experience under your belt, you will be able to handle the ones that lay ahead. Life will always bring problems and tough days, regardless of how long they last. Sometimes a bad day can become a bad week, but remember that it is not forever. Life is a roller coaster, it has ups and downs. It never remains stagnant, no matter how much you believe it does.

2. Accept what you cannot change

Change is the only constant thing in life. Therefore, in some circumstances, some goals cannot stay realistic or attainable. And they lead to doubling down on frustration and saying to yourself, “Why Me?”.

Having the ability to accept what cannot be changed is important, especially it will help you handle tough days. Acceptance does not mean equal agreement. It only means that you acknowledge that certain events might be beyond your control. And it certainly does not mean that you allow them to control you.

3. It is okay to take breaks and ask for help

Bad days can make you want to hold on to control, and take on the world. Holding onto control makes us feel secure, but when you are having a bad day, it is okay to take breaks and ask for help. You do not need to shoulder all of the burdens. Please reach out to someone you trust for help, whether it is a close family member, a friend, or a therapist.

4. Believe in yourself

Tough days can wear you down. At their worst, bad days can make you feel less confident in your capabilities. The best remedy is self-belief, and practice makes it perfect. Despite what you are facing, you are still strong and capable. Therefore, believe in yourself, and forge ahead.

5. Focus on what you can control

There is probably a lot more beyond your control that you would want. Being frustrated at that fact can deprive you of the richness of its rewards and challenges. Instead, it leaves you feeling dejected, sad, and bleak. A sudden crisis can cause a bad day, or make it worse. In those moments, focus on what you can control. Do not try to take on more tasks than you can handle.
