The gene named MC1R already well known for producing pale skin and red hair, and now it is the variation in the same gene that is related to the differences how old people look to their perceived age and other people.

The person, who has particular variants of MC1R in their DNA, on an average looks two year older than they are. According to Manfred Kayser of Erasmus MC University, it’s the first time that a gene has been found to explain peoples ageing.

The researchers note that this gene is one of the reason from the others factor that influence the age and are planning to explore how exactly it influences, further identifying more genes influencing the age.

Ultimately the researchers are hopeful that this line of work will further offer nature of ageing and insights into our health.

Researcher David Gunn said that the perception of age is the best and exciting way to measure how well people are ageing, and they also think that it will lead to breakthrough in health research and ageing in the near future.
