Sri Lanka, the small island country recently conducted its poll for parliamentary elections. The results of the polls have come as a huge relief to some and as a shock to many.
Out of 225 seats, 106 seats have been won by United National Party (UNP). This win has bought Ranil Wickremesinghe back in power by defeating the President Mahinda Rajapaksa.
There is a margin of 11 seats between UNP and Rajapaksa’s United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA). Even though UNP failed to achieve a majority, the strong hold of the party and Ranil ensures that the power will be in their hands with support of their allies.
