How Can You Protect Yourself When Battling Cyclone Biparjoy


Cyclone Biparjoy has finally made landfall on the Western Coast of India and Gujarat is facing the brunts of this cyclone. This ‘very severe’ cyclone is something everyone should be wary of and take proper steps to remain safe.

So, how can you stay safe and be prepared for the cyclone?

  1. Make sure you have all the emergency numbers noted down and are constantly following authentic news and reports to know the latest updates. Do not believe in rumors and panic without any reason. Radios are a great way to stay updated.
  2. Keep all your electronic devices unplugged as the electricity during storms gets disturbed. 
  3. Stay away from windows or beams. Always choose areas of the house where there is a good support system and is sturdy. 
  4. Put storm shutters or protect your glass windows so that it does not break due to the force. 
  5. Do not step out of the house until all is clear, just because the wind speed lowers does not mean the storm is over. 
  6. If your house is near to the beach or in a coastal area, try getting to a storm shelter. 
  7. Keep food reserves for emergency. Bottled water and canned food should be kept in a good quantity just in case there is a need for them. 
  8. Keep all your important documents in a plastic bag and wrap it properly in a secure place. 
  9. If anyone in your family has a medical condition, make sure to keep a stock of their medicines along with some basic and general medicines. 
  10. Keep your car ready with fuel, if there is a need for immediate evacuation or emergency. 
  11. If you are in the car when the storm hits, do not get out of the car, instead, drive to a clear area and wait. 
  12. Stay away from trees, cable wires and heavy materials that can fall.

It is important to stay cautious even after the cyclone has passed and be prepared for any emergency.
