From Flipkart to BYJU’s, from Paytm to Zomato, they all have Chinese investors
We all know that anti-China sentiments in India are at an all-time high after the Galwan Valley brawl between the Indian Army and Chinese troops. People have flooded social media with posts related to boycotting Chinese products. We are not sure about how many of those posts and tweets were made through the Chinese phone itself, but we can say that a lot of them were posted through Chinese phones. Some videos also went viral in which people were seen breaking and burning their fully functional Chinese appliances. We don’t understand how doing damage to your own product which has already been bought will hurt China. Well, do we Indians even care about logic when it comes to our nationalism, integrity and sovereignty?
While there is a national debate about India-China trade relations and border tension, we thought of compiling a list of service providers and products you might not know are either Chinese or have Chinese investments in them.

1. You must be knowing that Redmi, Realme, Vivo and Oppo are a Chinese brand, but breaking your heart, we must tell you that even Apple phones are assembled in China.
2. Chinese companies have stakes in OYO, MakeMyTrip, PolicyBazar, Delhivery, Quickr and more.
3. Tencent Holdings, a Chinese multinational conglomerate holding company has invested in India’s most-used apps like BYJU’s Dream 11, Hike Messenger, Ola, Swiggy, and even Flipkart.
4. The Alibaba group has investments in Paytm, Zomato, Big Basket, Snapdeal, and Paytm Mall.
5. We import a lot of fertilizers, plastic material, organic chemicals from China. In fact, they are amongst the topmost imports from China. So from the food we farm and then eat to the plastic bottles we use or the toys our kids play with are a product of China.
6. India is the world’s largest provider of generic drugs. But we depend on China for about 70 per cent of the total APIs. API stands for Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients and it is used as a raw material to manufacture drugs.
7. India imported $2.5 billion of silver in the form of sheets, powder and plates from April 2019 to January 2020. So, the utensils we use, the jewellery we wear are also connected to China.
8. In the financial year 2019, India imported 10 times more auto components from China than it exported. So, the cars and bikes which increases traffic on roads are also part Chinese.
