Though we would never know what actually happened on the battlefields of the greatest wars, there are several movies that depict the stories of wars and the consequences of military conflicts.

You might need to rethink choosing your hero from ‘Iron Man” to an army colonel after watching the thrilling movies. Saving Private Ryan

‘Saving Private Ryan’ is named amongst the greatest war films of all time. The movie is based on the events of the ‘invasion of Normandy’ during World War II. The opening sequence of the movie will give goosebumps to anyone with its graphics and detailing. The movie is about finding James Francis Ryan of the 101st Airborne Division and bringing him home.

The movie was directed by David Ayer and launched in 2014, starring Brad Pitt, Shia LaBeouf, Jon Bernthal, Jason Isaacs, Logan Lerman, Michael Peña, and Scott Eastwood. The movie shows the sequences of the US tank crew fighting with Germans during the final weeks of the European theater of World War II. The makers have used Tiger 131 in the movie, which is the last surviving operational heavy German tank captured by the British 48th Royal Tank Regiment in Tunisia during World War II.

American Sniper

American Sniper is a biographical war drama based on Chris Kyle’s memoir American Sniper: The Autobiography of the Most Lethal Sniper in U.S. Military History (2012). The movie is the highest-grossing war film of all time with a total worldwide collection of $547.1 million. The film stars Bradley Cooper as Chris Kyle, who was named the deadliest sniper in the US military with 225 kills in his four tours in the Iraq war.

The film was nominated for several awards, including Academy Awards, British Academy Film Awards, and Writers Guild of America Awards. The film won MTV Movies Awards for the ‘Best Male Performance’ and Academy Awards for the ‘Best Sound Editing.’

Dunkirk is a must-watch war movie directed by Christopher Nolan. The movie depicts the Dunkirk evacuation of World War II when the Allied soldiers were evacuated from the beaches and harbor of Dunkirk, in the north of France. Dunkirk is the highest-grossing movie based on World War II, with a total worldwide collection of over $526 million. The movie was rated five out of five and named the ‘best war movie’ by several critics, including The Guardian, The Independent, Time, The New York Times, and The Economist.

1917

Last but not least. 1917 was inspired by the Operation Alberichro of World War I, which was the code name of a German military operation in France. The movie is about two young British lance corporals – William Schofield and Tom Blake, who were ordered to carry a message to Colonel Mackenzie of the 2nd Battalion of the Devonshire Regiment, to call off a scheduled attack. The Germans set up a trap to kill 1600 British soldiers and the two young boys are the only hopes who can save their lives.
