BJP MP’s Unparliamentary Remarks in Lok Sabha

Ramesh Bidhuri, a BJP MP, received a notice for using offensive language in the Lok Sabha against a fellow legislator. BJP leaders expressed regret. His suspension until the conclusion of the Privileges Committee investigation was urged by opposition leaders.

Bidhuri’s Offensive Remark on BSP leader, Shouted Aatankwadi in Parliament 


On Thursday Night, BJP Lok Sabha MP Ramesh Bidhuri used Unparliamentary Language against his parliament colleague Danish Ali of the Bahujan Samaj Party. The Lok Sabha proceedings, including Bidhuri’s remarks, were broadcast on television.

South Delhi-based BJP MP Made comments during a discussion about India’s Chandrayaan-3 lunar project. During the proceedings, Bidhuri shouted, Yeh ugrawaaadi (militant), yeh aatankwadi hai (terrorist), ugrawaadi hai, yeh aantankwaadi hai.Throughout the proceedings, Bidhuri can be heard shouting. According to reports, he also called Ali a “Mullah aatankwadi, bharwa (pimp), and katwa (circumcised).”

The South Delhi MP Bidhuri added, “Baahar phenko iss mulle ko (Throw this “mullah”) out”. Kodikunnal Suresh, can be seen directing the MPs to take a seat. Later, Suresh said he had instructed personnel to make sure Bidhuri’s remarks were removed from the records.

What is Unparliamentary Language?

Unparliamentary language is that which does not uphold the dignity of the house and is thus deleted by the chair from the transcript of speeches. According to PTI, speaker Om Birla had the BJP MP’s comments retracted. A list of words that are considered to be “unparliamentary” is published by the secretariats of parliament. These are often words that parliamentarians have used in the past and that were afterwards removed from the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha records.

Who’s Ramesh Bidhuri? 

Ramesh Bidhuri is a Lawyer, Farmer, Businessman and Member of Parliament from South Delhi. He is known for Communal Remarks. Ramesh Bidhuri served as the Delhi MLA for Tughlakabad from 2003 until May 2014.BJP’s Reaction : 

Rajnath Singh, the deputy leader of the Lok Sabha and the union defence minister expressed regret at Bidhuri’s remarks, according to PTI. Singh stated he did not hear what Bidhuri said and appealed to the Chair to remove the comments from the record if they were hurtful to members of the opposition.

According to authorities speaking to PTI, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla took note of Bidhuri’s comments on Friday and warned him of Strict punishment if he repeated the behaviour.

However, In response to criticism, the BJP sent its MP a show-cause notice asking him to explain his unparliamentary language within 15 days.

Opposition’s Action : 

Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, the floor leader for the Congress in the Lok Sabha, Kanimozhi Karunanidhi, Supriya Sule, and Aparupa Poddar, a member of the TMC, have all written to Mr Birla. Additionally, they requested that Mr Bidhuri should be Suspended from the Parliament until the Privileges Committee completes its inquiries. More letters from the other INDIA member parties will follow, according to members of the Parties.

Mr Chowdhury stated in his letter that the discussion “poorly reflected on the Parliament and its sanctity” and that “never in the history of Parliament have such words been used against a member of a minority community.” He said that since the hurtful words have already been published in print and visual media, removing them will not have much of an impact.

Mahua Moitra, a TMC MP, was the first to draw attention to the interaction on Friday morning when she uploaded a video of the incident on X (formerly known as Twitter). “True impartial example @ombirlakota has reportedly told @rameshbidhuri not to do this. Wow. While other less important non-BJP mortals, like @adhirrcinc & @SanjayAzadSln suspended for far less,” she stated. She challenged Mr Birla to bring a “privilege motion” against her but insisted that he first explain what steps he was taking to take Mr Bidhuri into account.
