Blast at Firecracker Shop in Karnataka: Death Toll Reaches 14, 2 Detained

14 people lost their lives as a result of a large fire at a fireworks shop/godown in Attibele, Karnataka. Investigations are still going on to find out what happened and who the perpetrators are; the shop owner was detained.

Cracker Shop Owner Detained in Karnataka After Godown Fire Claims 14 Lives


On Sunday, Karnataka Police arrested the owner of the firecracker shop in Attibele of Anekal town after a massive fire broke out at the shop- cum-godown resulting in the death of 14 people on Saturday, said the Director General of Police Alok Mohan. The DGP offered his deepest condolences to the families of those who had died in the tragedy and added that a thorough inquiry was being conducted to find out what caused the fire and identify those guilty.Two more persons passed away today while receiving treatment, adding to the 12 who died on the scene on Saturday at the shop-cum-godown in Attibele, Anekal Taluk, DGP added.

On Saturday, Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar made a site visit and stated that the deceased would receive compensation of Rs. 5 lakh each.Siddaramaiah, the chief minister, expressed sorrow over the fatalities.According to the authorities, the majority of individuals who died tragically worked at the firecracker godown/shop, and efforts are being made to determine the identities of the deceased.The event happened at 3:30 p.m. when firecracker cartons were being unloaded from a transport vehicle.

The shop’s owner and his son have been detained pending additional investigation. The cause of the fire is being thoroughly investigated, and those involved will be brought to justice, said DGP Mohan.

However, according to the DGP, there is currently no proof that underage labourers were working at the firecracker shop. He claimed that a thorough post-mortem study will provide further details about the unfortunate incident.

“Local authorities and law enforcement agencies are collaborating to ensure a meticulous investigation, and more information is expected to become available as the inquiry progresses,” said DGP Mohan.

The DGP further reported that the fire had quickly spread throughout the building, necessitating a difficult rescue effort on the part of the fire department and other emergency services.
