According to Shashank’s father, one of the girl’s uncles had threatened  Shashank with a warning that if their relationship continued he would do something wrong with him. Shashank later distanced himself from the girl, as said by the victim’s father.

Shashank said in a statement that he gave to the police that, on Saturday around 8 am his father dropped him off outside the ACS college in Bengaluru in which he was pursuing engineering. But because there was no class scheduled on that day, he decided to go back to home which was in Rajeshwari Nagar but while walking near Rajeshwari Medical college at approximately 9:30 am a gang of 7 people came in Toyota Innova car, kidnapped him and fled away.

The gang included his uncle Mannu, and 6 other people. Shashank also told police that he was blindfolded and assaulted by his uncle while moving in the car. Then they took him to an abandoned place and allegedly soaked him in petrol and set him on fire.
