IMD Warns of Heavy Rainfall in Mumbai for Next 5 Days, Fishermen Advised to Exercise Caution


The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for various districts in Maharashtra, including Mumbai, Thane, Palghar, Raigarh, among others. IMD forecasts moderate to heavy rainfall in Mumbai and other areas like Sindhudurg, Dhule, Ratnagiri, etc., over the next five days.

Mumbai: Heavy Rain Alert:

The Regional Meteorological Centre has issued a notice stating that Mumbai can expect heavy rainfall at isolated places over the next five days. Raigad and Ratnagiri districts are also predicted to experience heavy to very heavy rainfall in certain areas. The weather office has issued a warning to fishermen, advising them to avoid venturing out to sea during this period due to squally weather and strong winds expected in various sea regions. Additionally, the notice mentions the possibility of squally wind speeds reaching 40-45 kmph, gusting up to 50 kmph, in specific areas of North Kerala, Karnataka, Maharashtra, and the Southwest Bay of Bengal off the Sri Lankan coast.

Waterlogging Woes in Mumbai: 

Some parts of Mumbai have already witnessed waterlogging, causing slower movement of vehicles on the roads. Despite claims from railway authorities that suburban trains are running on schedule, commuters have reported delays of around 10-15 minutes. The Andheri subway was closed for traffic due to waterlogging, leading to diversions on the Vile Parle bridge and Captain Gore Marg S.V road.

BEST Diverts Buses Due to Tree Fall:

The Brihanmumbai Electricity Supply and Transport (BEST) spokesperson mentioned that a tree fall incident near Sadhana Vidyalaya at Sion resulted in the diversion of buses on several routes.

After a slight decrease in rainfall intensity over the past few days, Mumbai experienced a mix of sunny and cloudy days. However, intermittent periods of light to heavy rainfall were still observed during this period.
