On July 18, Tuesday in Rajasthan’s Osian, about 50 km from Jodhpur city, 

4 family members, including a 6 month old girl, were killed and set on fire in the courtyard of their own home

All the victims as identified by police are Punaram (55) ,his wife Bhanwri (50) and daughter-in-law, Dhapu.

The incident took place on Tuesday night at Chaurai Village when the killers  murdered the four by cutting their throats with a sharp object, then took the bodies to the courtyard and set them on fire. When the local residents saw smoke coming out of the home of Punaram, they dialed 100 to call the police.

Then the police came and on entering the house of the victim, police found the burned bodies of all the 4 members in the courtyard. Besides Dhapu’s body remains of her 6 month old daughter were also found there, as reported by the police.  

According to the police, It was believed that the reason behind the murder could be personal rivalry.

A forensic team is appointed at the crime scene and top district officials are also present there, including Collector Himanshu Gupta. Jodhpur Rural police chief Dharmendra Singh is monitoring the situation in the area.

Police investigation is underway and the accused are not arrested yet

BJP also commented on the incident by raising questions over the law and order situation in the state and tweeted “If this is the state of law and order in the Chief Minister’s home district, what will be the condition elsewhere?”
