The Indian shooting team added another medal to India’s tally at the Asian Games 2026, with Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar, Niraj Kumar and Rudrankksh Patil winning silver in the men’s 50M Rifle 3 Positions team event on September 25. The Indian trio produced a combined score of 1762-94x to finish second behind China, which secured gold with 1766-95x. South Korea claimed bronze with 1751-87x.
Indian Shooting Team Secures Silver in 50M Rifle 3 Positions
The Indian trio delivered a consistent performance at the Aichi Prefectural General Shooting Gallery in Aichi-Nagoya. The competition required shooters to perform in three positions — kneeling, prone and standing — making accuracy, concentration and consistency essential throughout the event.
India began with a score of 294 in the first kneeling series and reached 587 after the second. The team then maintained its momentum in the prone position, scoring 593 across the two series and taking its aggregate to 1180. In the standing position, India added 582 points to finish with 1762-94x.
China eventually finished four points ahead of India to take the gold medal. The result also meant that China took the title after India had won gold in the same team event at the previous Asian Games.
Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar and Niraj Kumar Reach Individual Final
Along with the team medal, there was more positive news for Indian shooting. Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar and Niraj Kumar qualified for the individual final of the 50M Rifle 3 Positions event.
Aishwary finished third in the individual qualification with 589-34x, while Niraj was fourth with 588-34x. Rudrankksh Patil finished ninth with 585-26x and did not progress to the individual final.
Their qualification keeps India’s hopes alive for another medal from the event. The individual competition will provide Aishwary and Niraj with another opportunity to compete for a podium finish at the Aichi-Nagoya Games.
Strong Showing for Asian Games Shooting
Shooting has once again emerged as an important contributor to India’s medal campaign at the Asian Games. The latest shooting medals came on a particularly productive morning for the Indian contingent.
Earlier on September 25, Suruchi Phogat and Kamaljeet won gold in the 10m air pistol mixed team event. The pair scored 484.6 in the final, with the performance reported as a new Asian Games record.
The two results gave Indian shooting a gold and a silver on the same day, highlighting the country’s performances across both pistol and rifle events.
Suruchi Phogat Adds Gold to India’s Shooting Success
While the men’s rifle team was competing for silver, Suruchi Phogat was part of another successful Indian shooting combination. Partnering with Kamaljeet, she helped India secure gold in the mixed 10m air pistol event.
The pair had entered the final after topping qualification with 587 points and then produced 484.6 in the medal round. Their victory added another significant result to India’s shooting campaign at Aichi-Nagoya 2026.
