World Motorcycle Day: Celebrating Freedom, Adventure, Brotherhood and Two-Wheel Passion
On World Motorcycle Day, which falls every June 21st, motorcyclists around the world celebrate the freedom, the high, and the community, which anything to do with motorcycles represents. This is the longest day of the year with the summer solstice, which makes it a good event to invite the riders to enjoy the most of their enthusiasm and take to the wide road. It is not only a day to ride a bike but a day to show appreciation to the resilience of the motorcycling that is playing a vital part in societies across the globe.
The history of motorcycling can be dated to the late 19th century, when the first motorcycle easily described as modern appeared in the United States in 1867, and seen as the work of George B. Selden. Since then the motorcycles took different turns into becoming what we now consider a sophisticated means of transportation serving a variety of purposes as means of transportation, wartime messenger service, adventure and personal statement. The subculture of the so-called biker lifestyle in its turn acquired momentum especially following World War II, when servicemen toyed with comradeship and a sense of mission on motorbikes.
The focus area is of World Motor Cycle Day where the motorcycling fraternity gathers promoting geographical and cultural unity. It is a day that the noise of motors and the screeching of tires on the pavement become a national song of liberty. In different places of the world, numerous events are held to celebrate the occasion. They may include official group-drives and rallies with hundreds (or even thousands) of bikers meeting, to smaller more personalized groups of friends. Scores of motorcyclists also ride just to enjoy the feeling of freedom and to de-stress as they continue riding on their own.
Other than the pleasure of riding, the World Motorcycle Day also demonstrates the utility of motorcycles. They are cheap and convenient method of travel, particularly in cities. The current models are also highly efficient in fuel consumption and this falls in line with the improving trends to save the environment and also provide a greener alternative in place of cars.
The day is also a platform for the motorcycle industry. There are expos and conventions that often coincide or are influenced by the spirit of World Motorcycle Day, presenting the new developments in motorcycle riding technology, safety features, or design. This engagement often paves the way for what is possible on two wheels as well as elevate what can always be trusted; that the industry has a commitment to improving the motorcycle riding experience and the safety of riders.
Safety is a huge part of what World Motorcycle Day is about. Everyone enjoys the sensation that comes along with riding but it’s important to ride responsibly. World Motorcycle Day is a reminder for riders to routinely check their motorcycle maintenance, gear-up with protective riding apparel, stay visible to other road users, and obey the rules of the road. Many organizations take advantage of this day to provide information on motorcycle safety courses or raise awareness to riders and other drivers about making roads safer.
