Goa CM Manohar Parrikar Health dips: What will be BJP’s next move?


The health of Goa CM Manohar Parrikar, who is suffering from a pancreatic ailment, deteriorated further on March 16. Notably, it has sparked the hectic political activities across parties in the coastal state.

According to reports, MLA and core committee members met on March 16 to discuss the political situation arising due to the poor health of the CM Manohar Parrikar.  Notably, the Congress Party on Saturday, 16 March, claimed to form the government in Goa, saying that the BJP – led state government has lost the strength in the house.

Will Congress form the government?

Well, BJP has come into action to protect its government in the coastal state. The party has already begun the search for a new CM candidate. As per reports, during the legislator party meeting, BJP MLAs told party leaders that CM should be from among the legislator.  The Modi government is expected to send its emissaries to Goa on Sunday to consult MLAs to finalize the CM candidate. As per fresh reports, they may hold meetings with coalition partners – Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party, Goa forward party and three independents.

Earlier in the day, Congress had written to Governor Mridula Sinha to dismiss the BJP- led government which it said is in minority.  Notably, Congress has 14 lawmakers in the 40- member assembly whereas BJP has 13.  It is backed by three MLAs of the Goa Forward Party and MGP, an independent, and the only NCP legislator in the state.  Notably, three seats in the assembly are currently lying vacant.

When was Manohar Parrikar last seen in Public?

Manohar Parrikar, 63, was diagnosed with a pancreatic ailment last year in February. After staying in the hospital for months he returned to work in December. His public appearance drew a lot of criticism from the opposition. As he was seen with a tube in the nose. The opposition claimed that BJP was making their politician work and ignoring his health issues.
