Asian Games 2018 Updates: Boxer Amit Panchal, Bridge Men’s pair bags Golds

In his first Asian Games, 22-year-old boxer Amit Panghal bagged gold after beating Rio Olympics gold medallist, Hasanboy Dusmatov by 3-2 to win gold in Men’s Light Fly 49kg category. This is India’s only Medal in boxing so far. Similarly, in the bridge Men’s Pair event Pranab Bardhan and Shibhnath Sarkat clinch gold. India won its 15th Gold medals with this Indian duo who finished the final with a total of 384.00. This is the first time bridge has been introduced in the Asian Games.

Although the 500m Final was a moment of despair as India finished last among 9 participants in the women’s Kayak Four 500m A. With this come to an end India did not win a single medal in this particular sports.

Similarly in Judo, reaching up to the quarterfinals India loses the match with 0-4 against Kazakistan. The figures are really disturbing as the team had defeated Nepal with 4-1 in their previous 16 rounds of matches. Indian duo Prakant Sharma and Jamesboy Singh Oinam finished last in the men’s canoe Double (C2) 200m event after clocking a time of 41.532.

Indeed, the 14th day of this big event for India is disheartening with some glances of victory till yet. Though many events are yet to happen, which may give us a reason to celebrate.

Now, coming to the team events the Indian Men’s Hockey team, after the heart-breaking loss against Malaysia on Thursday during Semi-finals will play against Pakistan for grabbing the bronze medal at 4 pm IST. The Indian women’s squash team after defeating Malaysia by 2-0 in the semi-finals on Friday is now competing with Hong Kong from 1:30 pm IST onwards.
