A doctor in the African nation of Tanzania has developed a ingenious low cost filter to make water potable.




The filter, capable of removing dirt, and 99.90 percent of the bacteria renders the water clean and potable.

Dr. Askwar Hilonga was concerned seeing the health problems of his patients due to water borne diseases, and decided to develop this low cost contraption which works on gravity.




Costing a mere $140, each filter is capable of taking care of the needs of 4 to 5 households, thus making it affordable for all.
