Google is working on Mixed Reality Headset

Google is reportedly working on a new mixed reality headset, on the lines of the Microsoft’s HoloLens, as against the Oculus Rift. Google Glass has been no longer available to consumers, but it is available to corporations for use in some applications.

The headset will be having its own dedicated screen built in. A mobile phone or a computer is not necessary for the headset to work.

This time the focus will be more on the augmented reality content, as against gaming, which is a kind of experiences most offered by the dedicated virtual reality headsets today.

However, a release date has not been announced yet, but this project is a major part of the future plans by Google, as per reports.

Also early this year, Google has spun off a virtual reality division in the company, which was lead by Clay Bavor. Google has also released a pointer for interacting with virtual reality and augmented reality applications.

Huawei will also be launching the first Android smartphone to support Daydream. Google has further shipped over 5 million cardboard headsets, which is will be a cheaper way for new consumers to have a taste of a virtual reality experience.

Google’s Expeditions apps have recently got a public launch, which is a virtual reality field trip app for students and teachers. However, Google does not offer a high end dedicated headset yet.
