Apple to manufacture AirPods at Foxconn’s Hyderabad plant, expanding beyond iPhones

Apple is set to diversify its manufacturing endeavors by producing its renowned wireless earbuds, AirPods, at Foxconn’s Hyderabad factory. This strategic expansion beyond iPhones is in line with Foxconn’s substantial investment of USD 400 million in the Hyderabad plant, with the aim of commencing mass production by December 2024.

A reliable source has confirmed that the production of AirPods will indeed take place at the Foxconn Hyderabad facility. This step marks Apple’s intent to further strengthen its manufacturing capabilities in India, signaling a broadening of its production range.

AirPods, holding a significant share in the global true wireless stereo (TWS) market, maintained an impressive 36% market share in the final quarter of 2022, as reported by research firm Canalys. The decision to manufacture AirPods in India is expected to not only reinforce Apple’s standing within the TWS sector but also contribute to the company’s localization efforts in the country.

Both Apple and Foxconn have yet to issue official statements regarding this development. However, this strategic move emphasizes India’s growing significance as a pivotal production hub for Apple’s diverse product portfolio.
