Prithvi Shaw attacked: Shocking video shows brawl with the Cricketer over selfies

Cricketer Prithvi Shaw attacked by a ‘drunk’ social media influencer girl and her friends over selfies

Fans always chase famous people for their pictures or a selfie with them, so it is not a new thing but in some cases, it may turn into a nightmare when the approach is completely wrong.

In a shocking video, Indian cricketer Prithvi Shaw is seen manhandled and his car attacked with a baseball bat outside a Mumbai hotel in Santacruz after an argument with a woman named Sapna Gill who is said to be a social media influencer. She along with her male friend Shobhit Thakur attacked the cricketer after the batsman allegedly refused to click selfies with her.

The incident took place in the early hours of Wednesday outside a hotel in Santacruz. The Oshiwara Police has not only arrested the woman (Sapna Gill) but also booked seven others for allegedly trying to intimidate the cricketer by damaging his car and threatening to implicate him in a false case.

WHO IS SAPNA GILL?

Sapna Gill, who hails from Chandigarh is a resident of Mumbai. She is a social media influencer and has more than 222K followers on Instagram. Gill has starred in such titles as Nirhua Chalal London, Kashi Amarnath, Ravi Kishan, Mera Watan, and Dinesh Lal Yadav. Also, Gill made her online presence on platforms like social media video giant YouTube, multimedia instant messaging app Snapchat, and video-sharing app Josh.

WHAT WAS THE BRAWL ABOUT?

According to police officials, on Thursday afternoon, Sapna Gill was called to the police station for inquiries related to her alleged involvement in the offense, and she was put under arrest. However, the woman’s advocate claimed in her defense that his client was a fan of the cricketer and just wanted a selfie with him but Shaw at that time was drunk and misbehaved with her.

Gill’s lawyer accused Prithvi Shaw of being drunk and alleged that he (the cricketer) assaulted her (influencer) with a wooden bat in a “misuse of power and position”. However, the police said that Gill and Thakur (Gill’s male friend) at the time of the incident were the ones in an inebriated condition. A video of the incident also has gone viral on social media, showing the cricketer being manhandled. The incident took place at the Mansion Club of Sahara Star Hotel in Mumbai on Wednesday night, according to ABP News sources.

COMPLAINT FILED BY SHAW’S FRIEND

A complaint in this connection has been lodged by Shaw’s friend and flatmate Ashish Yadav, who has been staying with Shaw at Bandra for the last 3 years and runs a café. The complaint stated that Sapna Gill and her friend Thakur approached Shaw for a selfie at the hotel and initially, the cricketer allowed them to do so.

But they (Sapna Gill and Thakur) forced him (Shaw) to click more selfies with them, a demand that Shaw turned down. Gill and Thakur argued and misbehaved with the cricketer after he refused to click selfies with them.

The complaint also said that both of them (Gill and Thakur) were in an inebriated condition (under alcohol influence). Not only this, after seeing the brawl, the manager of the hotel intervened and asked the duo, Gill and Thakur, to vacate the premises for misbehaving with Shaw over selfies.

After this incident, Shaw and Yadav went inside the hotel to have dinner. But, when they stepped outside, they saw Thakur holding a baseball bat in hand along with his friends. After Shaw and Yadav sat in their car, the accused (Thakur) attacked the windshield of the vehicle with the baseball bat, and also Shaw was manhandled by Gill.

Sensing more trouble, the cricketer left the place in another car while Yadav and others drove his vehicle to Oshiwara.

Yadav (Shaw’ friend) saw three motorcycles and a white-coloured car chasing them. Around 4am, those following him attacked his car again when he was taking a U-turn near a petrol pump on Link Road. Thakur (Gill’s male friend), who was one of them, broke the rear windshield of the car with the baseball bat and the 6 persons on motorcycles along with Gill and Thakur, who were in the car, abused Yadav and those accompanying him. Meanwhile, Yadav took the car to Oshiwara police station.

Not only this, according to police officials, all the eight accused followed them (Yadav and friends) to the police station with Gill arguing and threatening Yadav to pay rs.50,000 to settle the matter or else she would lodge a false police complaint against them, following which Yadav lodged a complaint against the accused. Based on his complaint, the police have registered a case against all the eight accused under Indian Penal Code (IPC) 148 (rioting), sections 143 (unlawful assembly), s384 (extortion), 506 (criminal intimidation) and others.
