First time in 11 years, No Muslim judge in SC

After the retirement of two Muslim judges this year, the Supreme Court has been functioning without a judge from the community.

Notably this is the first time in 11 years, and only the second instance in nearly three decades, that the apex court has been without a Muslim Judge. Last time a Muslim judge was elected in year 2012. Justice MY Eqbal and Justice Fakkir Mohamed Ibrahim Kalifulla, elevated that year got retired this year.

Currently two high courts have two Muslim Chief Justices that are Himachal Pradesh and Bihar. Last time Supreme Court did not have a Muslim judge for nearly 2.5 years, from April 2003 to September 2005.
