Make Your Bath Experience A Soothing One With Premium Towels

Use high-quality premium towels to create a soothing bathing experience

Towels are something used by everyone, and are essential for a comfortable bathing experience. Their primary use is to help us dry off or lie down. But other than this, they can also be used for other purposes; for example, creating a barrier for privacy when you need to change in a public space like a swimming pool or the beach.

A body that has been soaked, contains a lot of water. The huge surface area of the towel fabric spreads the water molecules over a considerably larger surface area when this is transferred, lowering the relative concentration of water on the body, due to its absorbent nature.

Towels are also used for a variety of purposes such as for the face, body, and hands. Mostly distinguished by their size, they can be made into Face towels (small in size), Hand towels (larger than face towels) and Bath towels. Bath Towels are the largest ranging around 40CM X 60CM. Face towels and Hand towels tend to have more GSM (grams per square meter) of cotton threads.

This entails that this type of towel would be heavier with more surface area to absorb moisture from the damp skin. Towels can also be used for decorative purposes as seen in hotels. Different colors and designs of the fabrics can help improve the aesthetics of your bathroom.

How Bath Towels became popular

The majority of historians attribute the invention of the first bath towel to the Turkish, more specifically the city of Bursa, in the 1600s due to the significance of public baths during that era. These towels were thin, woven pieces of cotton or linen.

This played a significant role in Turkish culture. The traditional Turkish towel, or “pestemal,” was a flat, woven sheet of fine cotton or linen that may have been created as a part of the bride’s pre-wedding washing ceremony. The pestemal was meant to be wrapped around the torso and was long and thin. It may have had hand-embroidered markings. And this pattern has persisted and influenced our contemporary ways of life, en route towards becoming one of the most essential items for baths.

The best material for towels

The most well-known towel material is cotton. However, not all cotton towels are the same and quality mostly depends on craftsmanship. Cotton bath towels are multipurpose choices and great for everyday use, whether you want them for your own needs, or the guest bathroom. Although towels made of man-made materials, such as polyester or rayon, are available, experts almost universally agree that cotton is the best material for its sponginess and highly water absorbent nature.

Moreover, the best course of action is to choose a towel made from quality materials, such as premium cotton towels with extra-long staple filaments to improve strength, non-abrasiveness, and high moisture absorption capability. The higher the GSM of towels, the better they perform in terms of functionality as well as comfort.

It should be noted that the following basic rule applies to cotton towel GSM ranges:

Lightweight, thinner, and coarser: 300 to 400 GSM.

400–600 GSM: Medium–to–high weight, soft–and–absorbent–material, suitable for beach or bath towels.

Highest, heaviest weight, soft and absorbent, expensive, and luxury towels usually  have 700 to 900 GSM.

While   still makes up the majority of towels. Other commonly used fibers include hemp, ramie, bamboo, alternative wood fibers (Tencel), flax (linen), polyester (microfiber), and microfiber from polyester.

Care instructions for towels

  • If ironed, cotton towels need to be ironed at a lower temperature to prevent the threads from being damaged.
  • It is always advisable to wash towels each week using a mild detergent
  • Warm water may be used (40 degrees C)
  • Using bleach on towels is never advisable as the delicate fibers may be damaged and lead to discoloration of the item.
  • Air drying is always the best option for drying washed towels but if you use a washing machine to dry them, put it in a low setting to stop the cotton fibers from getting damaged.
  • Towels may be infested with bacteria and dirt as they are used for personal hygiene purposes. Hence, it is advisable to wash them separately.
  • Avoid using fabric softeners as they reduce the longevity of the towel threads.
