Winters are here and we are already seeing the days becoming colder each day. And to fight the cold, or to actually enjoy the cold weather, many of us choose to drink a simmering cup of tea or coffee, not once or twice but many times a day. And while people drink enough cups of hot beverages that they lose count of how the number of cups, it should be noted that excess to everything is bad. While an apt amount of caffeine intake can be really good for the body, access amounts can be harmful. Here is a guide for what are the pros and cons of drinking caffeine.

 

Pros of Drinking Caffeine

1. Can improve energy levels

Caffeine is known to increase energy levels and people, especially in India, generally take tea or coffee to boast themselves to work. It is often seen as an instant energizer, especially on cold winter days.

2. It can burn fat

There are studies that show that caffeine can lead to fat burning by 10%, especially in people who are obese and 29% in those who are lean. Although, the effect of the same will start to diminish once a person becomes addicted to caffeine.

3. Contains Essential Nutrients

A nicely brewed single cup of coffee contains 11% of Riboflavin (vitamin B2), 6% of Pantothenic acid (vitamin B5), 3% of Manganese and potassium, and 2% of Magnesium and niacin. These are the nutrients that are required by the body in small amounts and drinking coffee can help in making this addition to your body.

4. Can make you feel less depressed

Caffeine has a tendency to make a person feel happier than before. The warmness adds to the feeling of comfort and hence, it can make a person feel less depressed. Although it is not a resort to depression, it is one way in which a person can feel a bit better than a usually depressed feeling.

Although, as said before, excess to everything is bad, here are some cons of intaking caffeine

1. It can lead to anxiety

Contrasting, but it true. Caffeine is known for increasing the alertness of a person. But for a fact, higher amounts of caffeine can lead to anxiousness. A high intake of caffeine, more than 1000 mg, reported causes of nervousness and anxiety.

2. Can make you an insomniac

Where several people drink caffeine to increase alertness and feel less sleepy, regular intakes of the high amount of caffeine can cause insomnia. There are studies that have shown higher caffeine intake appears to increase the amount of time it takes to fall asleep. And eventually, it may also come up to decrease the total sleeping time of a person.

3. Addiction

There is no denying fact that caffeine has its health benefits but at the same time, it triggers certain brain chemicals just as way cocaine and amphetamines do. Yet the addiction to caffeine is not like classic addiction, it can lead to a psychological dependency, especially with the high dosage. 

4. High BP, Rapid Heart Rate, Fatigue, etc.

Access to amounts of caffeine can lead to high blood pressure, increased heart rate, and can cause fatigue. It should be ensured that a person is not talking a lot of cups of beverages every day as excessive amounts can become dangerous.
