PM Narendra Modi Defends Farmers’ Interests Amid Trump’s Tariff Threats
Modi Gives Straight Forward Message to World Powers- The recent tariff rant by former U.S. President Donald Trump has equally earned itself a strong reply by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who has said that India would never yield in terms of welfare and dignity of its farmers. Talking to a gathering of farmers and rural workers, the PM Modi put it clear that foreign power can never dictate India its agricultural policy or disrupt the internal priorities of the country.
His vehement statements followed by Trump which suggested the imposition of very high new tariffs- up to 25%- on goods of other nations such as India which were seen as unfair to some countries because subsidies were given to agriculture and unfair trades were pursued by these countries. The remarks were, however, dismissed by Modi who said that policies of the country were created in the interest of the Indian people and not in the interest of satisfying foreign political interest.
Its Getting Dairy Farmers and Modi Says, We Are Proud of Farmers, says Modi
In stressing out the value of farmers towards constructing the nation, PM Modi stated, “India is really proud of farmers. Their efforts give food to a population of more than a billion people each day. They will never get anyone to extort them of their livelihoods.”
He promised that the Indian government is in tandem with all farmers and will be supporting them by offering them loan facilities, new farming equipment, improved irrigation system, crop insurance, and providing minimum support prices (MSP). Examples of government action in order to conserve as well as empower the farming community were also cited such as in form of schemes such as PM-KISAN and PM Fasal Bima Yojana.

Atmanirbhar Bharat Takes Root in India Thanks to Frontal International Targeting
Modi has once again expressed his dream of becoming a self-reliant country through Atmanirbhar Bharat (self-reliant India) status and has said that it is not just the aim of strengthening the economy of India but also to bring food security at self-reliance. He further informed that India would still trade in the international dimension but would never accept being victimized under unequal terms in relation to the national interests among them the agricultural interests.
The present should not be able to get trade at the expense of our farmers. We want co-operation, not compulsion,” he replied.
Looking Ahead: India is Preparing for Diplomatic Blow Back
While Trump’s comments do not represent official U.S. policy in the current term of office, India is bracing for potential trade fallout in the future. According to officials, India is willing to present its position at the proper international forums if necessary and defend its farmers by any diplomatic and economic means necessary.
National Interest Comes First
In his summary, PM Modi indicated, “The soil of India, and its sons, the farmers will always be protected no matter who stands against them, the government will not backdown.” This strong and emotional message resonated with millions of people as this reinforces that the government will stand firm for India’s farmers, who are non-negotiable.
