Honey can improve nighttime coughing.

The delicious honey before retiring to bed can help kids with cough and cold and help them sleep soundly.

The study conducted by The American Academy of Pediatrics suggests that the use of honey can provide relief in cough and cold.

The Study:

A controlled trial was done involving 270 children in Israel aged between 1 to 5 years and had cough and cold.

the researchers advised the parents of the children, to give a teaspoon of honey 30 minutes before they went to bed. Placebo was also administered. “The three types of honey were: eucalyptus honey, citrus honey or libiatae honey. The placebo syrup was made with silan date extract.”

Parents were asked to answer a questionnaire containing information about their child’s sleep after and before taking honey.

Study Findings:

Nearly all the children showed marked improvement in the quality of sleep and severity of cough.

The author finally said that honey is a “preferable treatment” for controlling symptoms of upper respiratory tract infections.

They said, “Parents rated the honey products higher than the silan date extract for symptomatic relief of their children’s nocturnal cough and sleep difficulty due to URI (upper respiratory infection).”

The study was published in the journal of Pediatrics.
