IMD’s Weather Update: Heavy Rain in South Gujarat, Yellow Alert in Maharashtra, and Dry Spell in Punjab Continues


The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast light to moderate rainfall in various regions of India. They have also predicted isolated heavy rainfall in Madhya Pradesh, northeast India, Uttarakhand, and Uttar Pradesh for today. This follows a dry spell in several parts of the country during the first week of September.

Heavy Rain Alert for South Gujarat

In South Gujarat, particularly in Valsad district, heavy showers were reported on Friday, and similar conditions are expected to continue today. IMD has issued a heavy rain warning for Dahod, Aravalli, Mahisagar, and Valsad districts. Additionally, there may be light thunderstorms with lightning and surface winds in various parts of South Gujarat.

In Mumbai, a yellow alert has been issued for Saturday, and it extends to Thane and Raigad districts until Sunday. Mumbai has already received 50% of its monthly rainfall quota for September.

Delhi, where the G-20 Summit is being hosted, experienced light rainfall overnight. The Regional Meteorological Centre in Delhi predicts light rains in Delhi-NCR over the weekend, with strict security measures and traffic regulations in place due to the summit.

In Punjab In Dry Spell Continues

Punjab is expected to have dry weather with light to moderate rain in isolated areas for the next five days. The state had a significant rainfall deficit during the first week of September, with almost no rain recorded. Haryana also experienced below-average rainfall during the monsoon season, recording just 1% less rainfall than the required amount of 382 mm.
