Shubh Mangal Zyada Savdhan Gets ‘Trump’s Thumbs Up’, leaves Netizens in splits!

Donald Trump has never been an advocate of same-sex marriage but he makes an exception


US President Donald Trump ahead of the India visit supported a Bollywood movie based on two gays, Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan on Friday night. Donald Trump retweeted the tweet of Peter Tatchell, a human rights campaigner, best known for his work for LGBT social movements. Trump lauded the tweet and wrote ‘Great’ in the retweet.

People are confused because Donald Trump has never been an advocate of same-sex marriage. In 2000, he said that ‘marriage is between a man and a woman’. In 2016, Trump had said that if he wins the election, he will appoint Supreme Court Justices who will overturn the 2015 decision of same-sex marriage. However, after getting appointed as the President of US, Trump took a U-turn and said that he was fine with same-sex marriage.

Ayyushman Khurana’s Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan released on 21st February and is receiving a positive word of mouth. After the trump’s tweet, the film has got international recognition.

The film is based on same-sex marriage and deals with two young gay couples who have to go through the family drama to stay together. The film also stars TVF fame- Jitendra Kumar, also known as ‘Jeetu’ in important role. The movie garnered more than 9 crores on day one of its release. Notably, it is  released with Vicky Kaushal starrer Bhoot Part One: The Haunted Ship.

This is not the first time when Bollywood has tried its hand on a rom-com gay film commercially. Earlier, Dostana starring Abhishek Bachchan, John Abraham and Priyanka Chopra talked about the same topic was a massive success amongst moviegoers. Kapoor & Sons also threw light on the gay couples and became a successful venture for Dharma productions.
