November Events: Farm Laws repealed without any debate

For more than a year, farmers are protesting on the borders of Delhi against the three newly introduced farm laws. However, there was a long struggle when Prime Minister went live a couple of days ago and announced that the government is to roll back the laws. The farmers were adamant about seeking a withdrawal via proper parliamentary session.

Ahead of the winter session of parliament, PM Modi delivered his remarks. He said that he is ready to face all the questions. Parliament’s monsoon session was marred by the opposition protests against farm laws and the Pegasus issue.

The repellent of the farm bill sparked a new political row. On 30 November 2021, parliament approved the repealing of three farm laws amid chaos and rushed voice votes. In both houses of parliament, the government hindered the demand of the opposition for a debate.

November Events: Vir Das’s Two Indias

Comedian Vir Das delivered the monologue ‘I come from two Indias’. This kicked up a storm and many people including Kangana Ranaut lashed out at Das, alleging , “intention to insult India on a global platform.”

The particular video was part of his recent performance at the John F Kennedy Centre in Washington DC. However, the 42-year-old comedian posted a note on Twitter, clarifying his intentions. He said that the act was a reminder that despite having several issues, India is still a great country.

November Events: Delhi Air marked worst in 7 years

Delhi woke up to a thick layer of smog a day after Diwali. The national capital’s air quality deteriorated to the ‘severe’ category. The neighbouring cities of Faridabad, Ghaziabad, Gurgaon, and Noida also recorded “severe” air quality. People were seen busting firecrackers despite the Delhi government’s complete ban on firecrackers.

As per the Central Control Board’s (CPCB) data, the national capital’s Air Quality Index (AQI), a day after Diwali stood at 661. People from several parts of the city complained of itchy throat and watery eyes. According to the CPCB, air pollution of severe levels “affects healthy people and seriously impacts those with existing diseases.”

However, despite this, November was marked as the worst air month in 7 years. This year, not even a single day, Delhi breathed good quality air. There were 11 “severe” AQI days in November.
