Gulzar is not just a name now in Indian industry; it is the soul weaved in words; it is a trust of the things which come out from the heart and pouring its relatable syrup to lite up your day.

Here are some beautiful lines by Gulzar Sahab:

  • Wo Yaar Jo Khusboo Ki Tarah Wo Jiski Zubaan Urdu Ki Tarah

Meri Shaam Raat Meri Kaayanath, Wo Yaar hai Mera Saiyyan Saiyyan” (Dil Se)

One of the most iconic songs shot on a moving train.

While the lyrics of ‘Chaiyya Chaiyya’ was penned by Gulzar, the song was composed by AR Rahman and sung by Sukhwinder Singh and Sapna Awasthi. The lyrics of ‘Chaiyya Chaiyya’ are based on ‘Thaiyya Thaiyya’ (lyrics by poet Bulleh Shah), a Sufi folk song.

“Naino Ki Mat Maniyo Re,

Naino ki Mat Suniyo.

Naina Thag lenge” (Omkara)

Gulzar weaves his magic to describe the hypnotic and deceptive charisma of eyes. No one could have told the power of eyes better than him.

“Aaja Mai Hawaaon Pe Baithake Le Chalun

Tu Hi Toh Meri Dost Hai

Aaja Mai Khalaon Pe Baithake Le Chalun

Tu Hi Toh Meri Dost Hai” (Yuvraaj)

The movie did not do wonders in cinema halls, but the songs managed to create magic. Composed by AR Rahman, sung by Shreya Ghoshal, and Benny Dayal.

 “Aisi Uljhi Nazar Unse Hatti Nahi;

Daant Se Reshmi Dor Katti Nahi.

Umr Kab Ki Baras Ke Safaid Ho Gayi

Kaari Badri Jawaani Ki Chatti Nahi” (Ishqiya)

Gulzar expresses his philosophical take on the human heart in this mellow rendition of the movie Ishqiya. Dil Toh Baccha Hai Ji is composed by music director Vishal Bharadwaj and sung by Rahat Fateh Ali Khan.

Tujhse Naraaz Nahi Zindagi, Haraan Hoon Main

Tere masoom Sawalon Se Pareshan Hoon Main” (Masoom)

Lyricist Gulzar highlights how one should take all life’s curveballs with a bright smile in this iconic number from Masoom. While the female version of the song is crooned by Lata Mangeshkar, the male version has received the melodious voice of Anup Ghoshal. Picturized on Urmila Matondkar, Naseeruddin Shah, and Shabana Azmi, composed by RD Burman.
