Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his sorrow and condolences regarding the tragic Morocco Earthquake. Through his official social media platform, PM Modi conveyed his sympathy to the families who lost their dear ones and offered India’s full support to Morocco during this trying time. He conveyed his deep sadness about the lives lost due to the earthquake and expressed solidarity with the people of Morocco.

PM Modi’s Support to Morocco

During the G20 Summit in New Delhi, PM Modi stressed that the entire world stands by Morocco in this moment of grief, assuring that India is prepared to provide any necessary assistance. The earthquake of a magnitude of 6.8, struck Morocco’s High Atlas mountains, causing extensive damage, with at least 296 reported fatalities and 153 injuries, according to the preliminary figures from the country’s interior ministry.

 

Most of the casualties were reported in the mountainous regions, making rescue efforts challenging. In Marrakech, the nearest major city to the earthquake’s epicentre, there were reports of collapsed buildings in the historic city, a UNESCO World Heritage site, and a mosque minaret that had toppled onto cars. The tragedy has deeply moved PM Modi, who expressed India’s readiness to assist Morocco in coping with this devastating natural disaster.
