Vanuatu Parliament : Amid political crisis Vanuatu Elected Sato Kilman as New Prime Minister !

In the midst of rivalry between China and the US in the Pacific Islands, Sato Kilman is chosen by Vanuatu's parliament as the country's next prime minister following a no-confidence vote against outgoing leader Ishmael Kalsakau that was court-confirmed. Kilman had held the position of premier four times.

After a court affirmed the results of a no-confidence motion against Ishmael Kalsakau, Mr. Kilman, who has served as prime minister of Vanuatu four times, was elected on Monday with 27 votes to 23 in a secret vote. 

Almost three weeks ago, the Opposition filed a no-confidence motion against former leader Ishmael Kalsakau Kalsakau, criticizing him for his activities, including negotiating a security agreement with Australia. This action sparked a political crisis in Vanuatu.

On Monday, the court denied an appeal against a finding that the opposition parties had won the no-confidence motion.

According to local television VBTC, Sato Kilman, a former prime minister and PPP leader, has been chosen by the opposition as their candidate for prime minister when parliament convenes at 5 o’clock.

China and Western nations in the area have been engaged in a strategic contest that has Vanuatu as its focal point. After China inked a security agreement with the Solomon Islands, the United States and its allies are attempting to deter other Pacific Island countries from doing the same.

Prior to entering politics, Kilman was the deputy prime minister in Kalsakau’s administration. In May, he was dismissed from the cabinet.

He previously held the position of prime minister for eight months each in 2012 and 2015.
