Oscar 2021 concludes; Here’s the list of Winners

Chadwick Boseman, who died in August after a four-year battle with colon cancer, was widely expected to win the Academy Award for his role in “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom.” Instead, the award went to Anthony Hopkins in an upset. Chadwick would have been the third actor to win a anon honorary Oscar after death, like, Peter Finch (best actor, “Network,” 1976) and Heath Ledger (best supporting actor, “The Dark Knight,” 2008). But Anthony Hopkins did a great job and he absolutely deserved the win. Anthony who is 83, became the oldest person to receive an Oscar.

Frances McDormand won her third best actress Oscar this year. In Nomadland, she plays Fern, a bold and strong woman who takes to the road after the demise of her husband and the total collapse of the Nevada factory town. McDormand previously nabbed best actress honors for her acclaimed performances in the 1996 classic “Fargo” and “Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri.”

Chloé Zhao’s Nomadland, stars Frances McDormand as the movie lead. The movie is about a woman who leaves her town after the death of her husband and the closure of the sole industry in the town. The “homeless” woman roams the United States and meets fellow “nomads” on the road.

Chloé Zhao became the first woman of color and the second woman ever to win the award for Best Director. “I’ve been thinking a lot lately of how I keep going when things get hard,” Zhao said in her acceptance speech, referring to a Chinese poem she said she used to read with her father that opened with the phrase “People at birth are entirely good.”

Kaluuya played civil rights leader Fred Hampton’s in the movie “Judas and the Black Messiah”. In the 1960s Fred Hampton was the leader of a group called Black Panthers. What a man. What a man. How blessed we are that we live in a lifetime where he existed,” Kaluuya said in his acceptance speech. Kaluuya, who is seen as a rising star, was also nominated for his role in “Get out” at 2018 Oscars.

Yuh-Jung Youn is the first Korean actress to win the award. Youn has been a Korean icon for a long time before the Oscars win and is famous for her quirky, cute, and frank attitude. In Minari, she plays a lovingly quirky grandmother. With this the Oscar 2021 proved that they are trying their best to include diversity in the 93-year-old Awards.
