Diabolical Secret

The book ‘A Diabolical Secret’ is about the hardships faced by young children in our society at the time when they start reaching Puberty. Parents fail to discuss some important topics with their kids about sex education and puberty, hence the knowledge is so little that some kids face uncomfortable situations when they actually reach a certain age. The book will introduce you to some uncomfortable questions in the most comfortable way. Here is the book review of ‘A Diabolical Secret’. Another highly recommended book that you can pick this week.

The book focuses on talking about puberty and changes that the body goes through openly. The lack of information and right facts can lead to abuse.  The author has touched on an important topic with a different approach. Important issues are discussed in the form of a story. The story will melt your heart and also will make you think about how to handle such situations as parents or as an individual. The book is a direct question to parents as to why they are hesitant in discussing the grown-up topics with their kids. Why it is important to have fruitful communication with your child on a regular basis?

Plot that will keep you hooked

The story starts with two best friends, Siddharth and Vivek, enjoying their childhood with each other and making awesome memories like stealing a laddoo from the Ganesh Chaturthi Pandal or sleeping in the class. When we read through these pages, we go through the same emotions and the story takes us back to our school days. Sharing lunch boxes, making fun of teachers and classmates, love at first sight and heartbreaks.

Narration is quite captivating

One of them goes through tough situations in life like pressure from parents to study hard and from teachers to be attentive in class. Today, the same situation is seen with teenagers facing these issues. This societal pressure to perform creates havoc in their tender minds. We do not realise that hiding things from a teenage boy or a girl can have serious repercussions.

The parents need to spend quality time with their kids, not in their leisure time but it should be their priority.  . Vivek was a shy boy and was afraid to talk to his teachers and especially tuition teacher, but his mother and father never asked him why he was shy and why he was so afraid of his teacher. They never questioned him. They were only concerned with his mark sheet and overall scores.

There are some chapters in the book that will melt your heart. We suddenly feel pity and sympathy for this child and for all the children who feel alone among others. The story builds up when things go wrong. The parents regret and some lives are lost.

Unfortunately, at that crucial time, no one is around to help the child and he suffers alone; the atrocities of this big bad world. The world is a hard place to live in and a child needs mental support from parents during their teen days. The story is all about that. I hope it opens up the eyes of society in a positive way. After reading this, I hope people understand the value of sitting together as a family and discussing various topics. This is missing in today’s lifestyle.

The story takes a heart-wrenching turn when one of them faces the same kind of situation. The reader is shocked beyond belief that these kinds of things can happen to any one of us, or to our near and dear ones. A Diabolical Secret is a must-read for all age groups, especially parents and young kids. Highly recommended by fiction and non-fiction readers alike. A must-read for parents and teachers.
