Sharad Pawar, Adani, Ajit Pawar, Shinde and Fadnavis: Maharashtra Political Power at Play

Sharad Pawar, Adani, Ajit Pawar, Shinde and Fadnavis have all been in the news these past few months for some reason or the other. But, what is the connection between them? Can we anticipate new things? Before we look at this, let us brief about who these people are (for those who are unaware!).

Sharad Pawar

The former Chief Minister of Maharashtra is also the founder of the Nationalist Congress Party which he founded in 1999. He remains an important figure in the entire Maharashtra politics till date. He is currently a member of Rajya Sabha.

Gautam Adani

The business tycoon is one of the richest men in the world and owns the Adani group.

Ajit Pawar

He is currently the Leader of the Opposition in the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly. He has also been the Deputy Chief Minister for Maharashtra.

Eknath Shinde

He is the current Chief Minister of Maharashtra.

Devendra Fadnavis

He is currently the Deputy CM of Maharashtra. Last month, a meeting was held between Adani and Pawar which drew a lot of eyeballs. After the Adani-Hindenburg issue, there is no indication as to what the meeting was about. The meeting was held at Silver Oak, the residence of Pawar, and went on for two hours. Pawar and Adani have been friends for over two decades and Pawar had also spoken in his support when the Hindenburg issue had become viral.

Pawar was said to have met CM Eknath Shinde and Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis at Sahyadri Guest house at Malabar Hill. This meeting was eye-catching as there have been talks about Pawar shifting base to BJP. There is a fear among NCP leaders that the party might move towards BJP and this might just cause some MLAs to break away.

Supriya Sule, daughter of Pawar and an MP, has also hinted that there will be ‘political blasts’ very soon.
