Primary Suspect in Train Assault on Female Constable Fatally Shot in UP Police Encounter
A senior official has reported that the primary suspect in the assault case involving a female constable aboard a train has been fatally shot in UP, while two other suspects sustained injuries during a police encounter on September 23, 2023. Prashant Kumar, the Special DG for law and order, confirmed the development, stating that Anish, the prime accused in the attack on the woman constable on the Saryu Express, was wounded during a confrontation with the police in Pura Kalandar, Ayodhya, and subsequently succumbed to his injuries. Azad and Vishambhar Dayal Dubey, Anish’s two accomplices, were also injured and are now in custody.
The incident involving the injured woman constable occurred within a compartment of the Saryu Express on August 30. Following the incident, she was admitted to a hospital in Lucknow, where her condition is reported to be stable. A case was promptly registered with the Government Railway Police (GRP) in Ayodhya on the same. day.

High Court Prompts STF Action
The Allahabad High Court took SUO (on its motion) motu cognizance of the incident, prompting the activation of the Special Task Force (STF) in conjunction with local law enforcement and the GRP. Their combined efforts led to the identification and arrest of the suspects in this case, ultimately resulting in the encounter and subsequent casualties.
