Pune Bus Driver Murdered Over Rs 10,000 Loan

Two individuals in Pune, Somnath Ashok Kumbhar and Rohit Dilip Patekar were arrested for the murder of a PMPML bus driver over a ₹10,000 loan dispute during a drinking session.

Two individuals, identified as Somnath Ashok Kumbhar (30) and Rohit Dilip Patekar (19), both residents of Jambhulwadi, have been arrested by the Bharti Vidyapeeth police in connection with the murder of Rajendra Bajirao Divekar, a Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) bus driver. The arrest came after preliminary investigations revealed that a late-night drinking session between the accused and Divekar took a fatal turn due to heightened tensions under the influence of alcohol.

Debt Dispute Ends in Tragedy

Reportedly, Kumbhar had borrowed ₹10,000 from Divekar, and on Friday evening, Divekar visited Kumbhar’s residence to collect the debt. The situation escalated as they indulged in a liquor party, culminating in Divekar’s tragic demise. He was allegedly struck on the head with an iron rod.

The incident came to light when Divekar’s wife visited Kumbhar’s house the following morning and discovered what had occurred. She promptly informed her son, who in turn, contacted the authorities.

Police Capture Threatening Suspects

Vinayak Gaikwad, the senior police inspector at Bharti Vidyapeeth police station, stated that when Divekar’s son confronted the accused about the incident, they allegedly threatened him. The police swiftly responded and apprehended the suspects as they attempted to flee.

Upon interrogation, both Kumbhar and Patekar reportedly confessed to the crime. It was revealed that they have a history of criminal activity, with three and four cases registered against them, respectively. A murder case has been registered against them at the Bharti Vidyapeeth Police Station.
