About Operation Ajay

‘Operation Ajay’ was initiated by India to repatriate around 18,000 Indian nationals in Israel. The registration process for Indian citizens started on Thursday. The Indian embassy in Israel is actively assisting Indian nationals and has established a helpline for those in need of assistance. In response to the escalating conflict, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has also set up a 24-hour control room to monitor the situation and provide information and assistance.

Conflict in Israel-Gaza

The second flight, carrying 235 Indian nationals, arrived from Tel Aviv, Israel, and landed at the Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi on a Saturday morning. The first flight, with 212 Indian passengers, had landed in Delhi on the previous Friday. The ongoing conflict has resulted in significant casualties, with more than 1,300 Israelis and over 1,000 Palestinians losing their lives due to retaliatory strikes from Israel. In addition, the Gaza Strip is facing a severe crisis as it has lost power supply, with its only power plant shutting down. The UN agency for Palestine refugees (UNRWA) has issued a warning that Gaza is now facing a critical water shortage, labeling the situation as a matter of ‘life and death’ for the densely populated Gaza Strip. The region has been grappling with an electricity blackout since Wednesday.

U.S. President Joe Biden had a conversation with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Saturday. During the conversation, he urged both leaders to allow humanitarian aid to reach the region and expressed his support for efforts to protect civilians.
