In preparation for Diwali and Chhath Puja 2023, the Northern Railways is implementing measures for better crowd control. From November 13 to 18, the sale of platform tickets at New Delhi and Anand Vihar stations will be temporarily halted to manage the extra rush of passengers.

Acknowledging the festive travel surge, Indian Railways is running 1,700 special trains, providing around 26 lakh berths for passenger convenience. However, the challenge persists, as the Railways have faced criticism for handling the holiday rush poorly, as evidenced in viral videos of crowded stations.

Tragedy Amid Festive Travel

Tragically, in Surat, a man lost his life in a stampede as passengers rushed towards a special train bound for Bihar. Recognizing the significance of Chhath Puja, Indian Railways has introduced 42 special trains from Delhi to Bihar, aiming to ease the festive rush. Despite these efforts, crowded scenes at railway stations in the national capital underline the persistent challenge of managing festive travel effectively.
